The School of Theatre & Music (STM) provides innovative, rigorous, and comprehensive academic and performance programs as part of its diverse, urban context. These programs develop practical knowledge, cultural sensitivity, intellectual resourcefulness, and imaginative daring in emerging artists and scholars. They connect students to Chicago's abundant, vibrant theatre culture and to the city's dynamic jazz and classical music networks. The School of Theatre & Music (STM), a unit of the College of Architecture, Design, and the Arts, offers the Bachelor of Arts in Music or Theatre, Bachelor of Music, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre.

The Music curriculum offers thorough grounding in theory, history and literature, ear-training, piano skills, and ethnomusicology. In addition to the BA in Music, the BM program includes Jazz Studies and Performance. Music students participate in performance ensembles including The UIC Choirs, Jazz Ensemble, String Orchestra, Concert Band, and several chamber music groups.
The Theatre curriculum emphasizes a balance between practice and theory, with courses in technical theatre, movement, voice, and scene study, as well as history, contemporary performance techniques, and adapting literature for the stage. Program options include a BA in Acting or Theatre Design, and a BFA in Acting.
